Beware the Wakhan River

Beware Wakhan River Landmines

In case you’ve not seen it mentioned elsewhere, the Wakhan Corridor is named for the Wakhan River that winds its way through these mountains and serves as the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan.

One important point to note about the Wakhan River (and indeed the Pyanj River as well, which the Wakhan feeds into further down the line and which itself flows along most of the -rest- of the Afghan/Tajik border): there are landmines. This is more of a problem in Afghanistan, to be sure, but something you should be aware of all along the line. Keep an eye out for signs advertising the presence of these hidden killers.
